A new year means new year resolutions or these days we like to say new year goals. Yep time to make some commitments to yourself for your bodies sake!
When we set ourselves goals in any area of life we set intentions to make changes or achieve something that we haven't before. Big or small, it means making changes in our daily lives and requires planning to reach these ultimate goal.
Health and fitness goals are the ones made most and probably broken most too! We asked entrants to our December Summer Health and Fitness giveaway to tell us their new year health and fitness goals and we were overwhelmed there are a lot of goals to be kicked by you all!
The winner of our giveawayin December, Katherine from NSW, has the goal to be able to walk 50km on March 4 for Coastrek which supports the Fred Hollows foundation. We thought this was fabulous goal because not only is it a big personal challenge to walk 50kms but entering an event gives a deadline which then puts urgency into sticking with the training plan so you can complete the event. You also are committed to a team of 4 in this particular event so you have other people who are relying on you and who will also support you on your journey. Not to mention most training sessions also become a social event! Most of all, the fact you are competing to raise money for a cause means the goal has a bigger purpose than you. If you reach your goal not only have you improved your health and fitness but also improved somebody else's situation in life.
Many of the goals we read through, not surprisingly, were focused on losing weight and getting fitter. There are so many ways we can all go about doing this for ourselves and these goals and certainly not short term, it requires changes in lifestyle that need to stick to get the results. Diet, attitude, lifestyle and habits all need to be addressed.
Here is a great article offering seven steps to achieving your goals.
Our tip is to make it easier on yourself by setting smaller challenges that will lead to the final goal. Little changes to your lifestyle will make a big difference over time, then it won't seem so overwhelming.
